For Biscayne Day Cleanup Day 2003, also known in Miami-Dade county as Baynanza, WRT transported a good crew to Matheson Preserve's fringe mangrove forest during a low tide. On the right, Mandy is talking to Doc, who is sitting in his canoe. Doc's VA podiatrist Julio Ortiz is center, and venturing into the forest are Gillian Swinscoe (left) and Lo An Lam.
Left, on a cool morning in February 2004, Adrian, Mandy, and Robert are working together within the Matheson mangrove corridors to trap small fish for one of WRT's NOAA grants. While earning her degree in environmental science, Mandy served as Dr. Tom's intern. On right, Mandy performing a NOAA-required water test in February of 2006. She graduated from Broward Community College in 2007 with her degree in Environmental Science.
Taken at the wedding of Donna and Dr. Tom, February 12, 2005, at the Moody Homestead in Davie, Florida. The people we considered to be our WRT guides all posed in Tom's solo canoe at Donna's request. Mandy is on the right, in the canoe.
Left, on one of WRT's largest mangrove cleanups of 2007, Mandy, wearing her still-indestructible WRT t-shirt, is supervising the unloading of canoes and gear. On right, on one of WRT's Baynanza cleanups in 2008, Mandy worked with new volunteer Christophe Petit to load a very sizable amount of marine debris into their canoe.
Our Mandy cleans up good! She wed her fiancé, Jim D'Andrea, at beautiful Fern Forest Park. Mandy's favorite part of WRT? "Canoeing and helping give back to our community through our volunteering, and helping clean up the community. I like being able to do my part in helping give back to my community by volunteering, and knowing deep down inside that every little thing you do to help make your environment better makes a big difference, and that anything is possible."
