CVN: Who helped shape you as a boy?
KC: My parents, definitely, all my sports heroes, coaches that I had.

CVN: Who did you look up to?
KC: My dad, all sports people, and I loved history, so I was into Presidents and leaders of countries.

CVN: What types of jobs did you take when you were a student?
KC: I started working when I was 16 on tobacco, hay, pig, and cattle farms. It taught me much about hard work.

CVN: Where did you go to college for your Bachelor's?
KC: Ohio State

CVN: Your Master's?
KC: Nova Southeastern University

CVN: How did you decide on marine biology, especially given where you were born?
KC: I had a marine biology class and an incredible mentor at Ohio State that really influenced my career and life path.

CVN: What was your most exciting experience when you were in college? The Antarctica trip that was part of your Master's?
KC: Oh yeah!

CVN: How did you decide on Florida? What brought you here?
KC: Water and Weather!

CVN: What type of classes did you have to take to become a marine biologist?
KC: Much science, math, and writing, writing, writing in all my science classes. My thesis (project to graduate) was over 120 pages long.

CVN: Did you know when you started college that you were going to be a marine biologist?
KC: No, so even if you are undecided, it is good to start and find something you have a passion for.

CVN: What was your Master's thesis?
KC: I studied small animals called plankton (like on SpongeBob!)

CVN: What gets you out of bed in the morning (NOT a good cup of coffee!!!)?
KC: Knowing I have the great opportunity to work with Florida's incredible water resources, and that the work I do is important for both today and tomorrow. I also know I am fortunate to be able to get up and work at a job that I really enjoy. But a good cup of coffee is nice too!
